The concept for the Albany Urban Downhill was spawned in June 2013 after the two day Mountain Bike Trails conference held in Albany. After inspiring presentations from Troy Rarick, Fruita, Colorado and Nick Bowman, IMBA Australia, members of the Albany Mountain Bike club were determined to campaign for the creation of trails by increasing the profile of Mountain Biking in Albany. After viewing footage from amazing and spectator friendly Urban Downhill races in Chile, Mexico and Brazil a young club member, Travis Fage, realised that Albany had the perfect blend of natural topography and urban features to host Australia\u2019s first Urban Downhill event.<\/p>

2014 Event Director Dave Marshall and his team set themselves an ambitious timeline to get the first event underway and were determined to proceed with a \u2018can do\u2019 attitude at all costs. The City of Albany viewed the event as the perfect fit for their Strategic Planning as it provided a spectacle of adventure sports, suitable for a youth audience during a period with few other competing events \u2013 our first major partner was committed!
Over an industrious twelve month period the organising committee laid the plans for an exciting spectacle which came to fruition on the weekend of June 22nd and 23rd 2014. Despite the chaotic weather during the weekend the event was an outstanding success with an estimated 5000 spectators enjoying both the Whip competition on Saturday night and the Urban Downhill race on Sunday. In an awesome display of skill, dedication and ability in front of a captivated audience, five times World Downhill Mountain Bike Champion, Sam Hill, added Australia\u2019s first ever Urban Downhill to his impressive resume.<\/p>"},"yoast_head":"\n
