Have you got kids that are looking for an introduction to Mountain Biking or are would like to join a guided ride with friends to explore the trails? These rides are FREE for Albany Mountain Bike Club members, if your kids are not members they can join for a free 4 week Auscycling trial and give it a go.
What have we been up to?
Plenty of action on the MTB scene over the past month with events held in conjunction with the Albany Cycle Club for the first time in a Gravel Gran Fondo. Great representation across both road and mountain bike disciplines. As well as excitement in Denmark with Backyard Bustup and also the action we are all watching come to life at the city Pump Track with course layout down and most wooden features installed with the bitumen going down next week!
The Strong and Proud Indigenous program that the AMBC continues to support annually has branched out and formed a Tambellup group. It was great to have the young people down to experience mountain biking in Albany, participating in a guided ride and safety and skills session on Mt Melville led by Jamie and Corinne.
The Southern Peaks committee is working tirelessly to submit eligible grant applications. Many thanks to Brett, Dinah and Jo! New Urban track designed by Monkey Rock MTB has been confirmed and discussed with all land owners and stakeholder with official COA application TBC.
Super excited to once again be hosting a State Downhill Round in Albany, we hope to see a good representation of WA riders experience Poikies again. Brett Pengelly has secured Common Ground trail who have agreed to spend a day on May 16th improving the trail condition, just waiting for official go ahead from COA.
Bendigo bank funded brand timing chips have now arrived and we are looking forward to putting them to use at the state round in June.
The club has also submitted quotes to deliver Bike Education through the Dept of Transport and hopes to be able to deliver these next term to year 6 students at various schools.
Road traffic accidents are the leading cause of childhood death in Australia and providing students with essential bike skills will hopefully improve their safety and experience. It is also great to have our regular Thursday Kids Rides up and running.
Finally please get in touch with the club if you are interested in assisting in any session as we often rely on the help of volunteer club members to provide additional supervision. This is a great opportunity to contribute to the club and the community.
See you on the trail!
